What really happens during an embodiment coaching session?

During an embodiment coaching session I support you to connect to the wisdom of your body.

Together we move through the places where you’re feeling blocked, stuck and stagnant and invite your body to show you how to come back to flow.

But what does this actually mean?!

During a session we do three key things:

  • Get super clear on how you want to experience life. While many forms of coaching talk about the stuff you want to create in life (like a relationship, a job, a new home) we focus on the feeling of these experiences and get really specific about how the new reality you want to create would feel in your body.

  • Allow your body to reveal your deeper truth. Very often the things that are standing in the way of creating the life we want are different to what we think. Your body carries the truth of your experience in your felt senses. I guide you into the experience of your body and together we explore what’s really happening on a deeper level

  • Create next steps that feel great. Embodied coaching isn’t about coming up with elaborate strategies that feel intimidating. Once your body has revealed its wisdom to you, very often your next steps forward feel clear and simple. Together we create an action plan that feels right to you and that you’re eager to implement.

Alice realised that she already had everything she needed

Alice came to her session with a desire to feel more grounded in her business. As a new entrepreneur, she was tired of battling her doubts about whether she could really create the life she wanted. Alice wanted to step into a version of herself that was confident about where she was going

We started off the session with a guided embodiment meditation. Every session starts this way, to help us open the connection to our body and move through any surface level stress we’ve been carrying from the day. Alice commented that she didn’t even realise how frazzled and tense she had been feeling that day until we dropped in.

We then set an embodied goal, so that we could be really clear about what Alice was hoping to achieve during the session and beyond.

  • We clarified that up until now she has been feeling tense, tired, doubtful and like she wanted to hide in her business. That’s led her to spend more time thinking about whether she’s taking the right steps, than actually doing the work of building her business.

  • I invited Alice to feel into the version of herself she really desired to be. This version felt grounded, joyful and spacious. She knew that this version of her would take action in the direction of her goals without second guessing herself all the time.

It was time to move into the main process of our session.

I firstly guided Alice into the version of herself that she’s been playing in her business so far. It felt small, tight and hunched over. As Alice took on this shape in her body she was able to really feel what it’s been like to carry this energy with her day after day.

She said that this shape feels safe and familiar, but it also feels restrictive and makes it difficult for her to breathe. A part of her started to ask “what would it be like if I could breathe freely?”

Following her body’s wisdom I invited Alice to start to move out of this shape, guided by her impulses. As she unfurled her body and allowed herself to take up more space she naturally started to move towards the grounded, centred version of herself that she desires to be. She received an image of herself as a flower, dancing in the wind, able to move with the flow of life but still grounded in the Earth.

We spent some time really getting to know this version of her. We asked this version what it really desires and it responded: “To do good work.” This was significant as it spoke to some of the practical challenges Alice had faced learning new skills to get her business structures in place.

We discovered that the main thing blocking this version from leading in her life was that the older version of herself needed permission to step back. I invited her to give this part of herself permission to rest and she noticed that some of the nervous energy she had been carrying in her chest started to dissipate. As she was no longer keeping her body so small, the sensations were no longer trapped and were able to flow and move. She already had all the space she needed.

Alice commented that she realised the version of herself that she desired to step into was much closer than she had previously thought and that connecting to her had reassured her that she already had everything she needed to succeed.

We ended the session by discussing the next practical steps Alice could take in her business to reinforce her experience. She was now very clear about what tasks she could stop doing, and where she needed to direct her focus over the next few weeks. She was ready to start to take the decisive action that had felt out of reach before our session together.
